No Such Thing as a Dumb Question: 5 Questions to ask Your Elevator Manufacturer.

Knowledge is key! Citywide Elevator Consultant’s believes that one should be educated on the elevators and systems they are using. Prior to purchase here are a few questions you should ask your elevator manufacturer! 

1. Based on floor travel, which type of drive system would you recommend?

- There is a large selection of systems to choose from! In-ground hydraulic, traction, roped hydraulic and hole-less hydraulic are a few just a few options. 

2. Does this elevator have proprietary parts?

- Initially it may seem as though proprietary parts can save you money, but in the long run these parts can be problematic. Proprietary parts are parts that are designed for a specific elevator, by a specific manufacturer. This means that manufacturers only sell these parts to dealers that carry their brand. The National Association of Elevator Contractors refuse to use proprietary parts due to the fact that it drives up costs. When buying proprietary equipment, you need to use that same manufacturer for all parts, tasks, and maintenance. By purchasing non-proprietary equipment, you will have more maintenance options, as well, as lower cost over time. 

3. Who will install my unit and provide maintenance after?

- After installation you want to be sure your elevator system receives proper maintenance. Prior to signing, carefully read over the contract. Some contracts may include clauses that are five-year deals with automatic built in increases.

4. What will my elevator cost and what is the annual maintenance cost?

- Depending on the type of elevator and its usage level the cost can fluctuate.  According to Home Advisor, the national maintenance average ranges anywhere from $175 to 700$.

5. Who is my main point of contact?

For maintenance issues or repairs it is essential to know who your main point of contact will be.
