 Preventing Elevator Water Damage

Depending on where you live, it is a good idea to prepare for rainy seasons. Here are some preparation tips.:

1.)  Make sure the standby power generator is working properly.

2.)  Add weather stripping to doors near the elevator.

3.)  Ensure that your elevator has a surge protection system.

4.)  Check emergency lighting and phones.

5.)  Buy sump pumps for the elevator pit.

6.)  Inspect all windows, doors and windows near the elevator for leaks.

7.)  Install a float switch to prevent elevators from going to the bottom floor if the pit is flooded.

If a big storm is coming, make sure to:

 ·     Shut down escalators.

·     Don’t ride elevators during a major storm.

·     Place sandbags in the machine room to prevent flooding.

·     Turn off main disconnects on the remaining elevators.

·     Keep one elevator functioning for emergency personnel.

·     Run the rest of the elevators to the highest floor.
