Whether you are changing up the looks of an elevator or updating your machinery, changes made to your elevator is a major commitment. Here are some tips to help you get started.

 Do: Set a Budget

Refurbishment experts can give you an accurate estimate of the total costs for a refurbishing project. Experts can also tell you what you genuinely need to replace and what they think can be refurbished or salvaged. Doing this will allow you to set a firm budget.

 Do: Stay Local

In some cases, its best to utilize the work of a local company. Be aware that each elevator provider will have their own specialties and limitations. By contracting with a local provider, you’ll not only be supporting your community economy, but you’ll also be able to consult with them in person and get to know who will be working on your elevators. Local companies will also have access to their local parts dealers, supplies and local workshops to get the job done as efficiently as possible.

 Do: Keep Tenants Involved

Refurbishing your elevator can mean the elevator is inaccessible at times. Be sure to keep your tenants informed of the timeline and keep them involved with decision making, if possible. Talk to your tenants about the schedule and what weeks would be best for major changes.

 Don’t: Ignore the State

Making changes to your elevator will mean that you’ll need to have the elevator re-inspected and certified. Modernization of an elevator’s machinery will mean a new inspection is needed. These are typically scheduled by the elevator modernization professionals handling your project, make sure to ask if they don’t mention it first!

 Don’t: Disregard the Budget

Be aware of your budget and what is allows for. Communicate your budget with your elevator provider and the timeline you’d like to work in. By doing this, you will be sure to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Be sure to follow these helpful steps while refurbishing or modernizing your elevator!
